8th March 2025 marks International Women’s Day – devoted to celebrating the achievements of women and seeking gender equality!

One big inequality that springs to mind is that studies consistently show that women are less likely than men to receive bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) during an out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Particularly in a public setting.

This disparity significantly impacts survival rates, as immediate CPR is crucial for increasing the chances of recovery.

One study found that in public locations, 39% of women received bystander CPR compared to 45% of men. This indicates that men were a staggering

27%

more likely to receive CPR in public than women.

Your gender should not dictate your chances of surviving a cardiac arrest!
